The quiet enclave of the Islamic Museum KL

Do yourself a favour next weekend. Instead of braving the crowds in shopping malls and struggling to find parking spots in those air-conditioned commercial concrete boxes, take yourself and your family & friends on a serene encounter with the elegant Islamic Museum of our dear city.
Situated in close to Lake Gardens, National Mosque, Bird Park and Police Museum; the building is tucked away from the busy traffic of KL but incredibly convenient to get to.
After admiring its beauty during my first visit, which was to view Steve McCurry’s exhibition not long ago, I knew I had to come back again to explore the entire place.
Filled with detailed replica mosques from around the world and many other artifacts, my mother and I were blown away by the sheer beauty of the architecture of the museum itself, and then some by its contents.

Zee Avi live in KL for the 1st time!

Her dreams came true when she was signed on to an American record company after being discovered on YouTube.

The 23 year old petite and soulful singer was back in KL on Saturday, and crooned a 60-minute set to a sold out KL Live Centre audience. Fellow Malaysians were eager to meet her and enjoyed all her songs, word for word. We were also there to see her after the long awaited concert.

Hi Zee Avi, welcome back home and congratulations on your success!Thank you, it’s so great to be back.

You’ve been away for a while now. So what do you miss most about Malaysia? The food! And also family, and friends.

How hard was it for you to adapt to your move to the US?
Well I moved to London alone when I was 17, so I’m pretty much used to being independent and learning to adapt. It wasn’t hard at all.

How different is it when you perform overseas compared to your performance here tonight?
Well the love for music is universal and people enjoy it pretty much the same everywhere. But I have to say the vibe here tonight has been phenomenal and a lot more than usual. The support has been amazing.

What has been your most valuable experience abroad to date?
I’ve learned that before we go out of our comfort zone, we must be prepared to adapt. So my experience has taught me to adapt well.

Was homecoming all you expected it to be?
It is more than I thought it would be. (beams)

How has the tour been?
Loads of fun. I love being on the road.

So have you eaten all your favourite foods here yet?Not yet, it’s endless!

Where do you get the inspiration for your music?
Books, movies, experiences, other people's stories.

Was it ever your ambition to be a star when you were little?
I wanted to be a princess on a unicorn (laughs). I also wanted to be a model but I stopped growing when I was 12 so that was impossible too.

What can we expect from you in the future?
I’d like to expand, and branch out into someone who not only creates music, but art as well.

Are you satisfied with your success so far?
I’m not satisfied yet. I’m a workaholic.

Do you think success has changed you?
Being on the road definitely has. I’m still the same person with more experiences, like a tree but with more branches. I’ve learned more.

Where is the next destination of your tour?
Australia!
